Mr. David E. “Papa” Sanford, age 81, of Lanett, AL passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at his residence.

     Mr. Sanford is survived by his daughter, Dottie (Vince) Johnson; his son, Alvin E. (Melissa) Sanford; his two granddaughters, April Johnson and Karla Sanford; his great granddaughter, Lexi Sanford; and his special nephew, Elbert (Lily) McCarley.

     He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Sanford; four siblings, Ben Sanford, Alvin L. Sanford, Nellie Ruth McCarley, and Ellen Ogle.

     Mr. Sanford was born on October 23, 1935 in Alexander City, AL to the late Bennett and Dixie Sanford. He was a member of Huguley Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. After the war he served in the National Guard for a number of years. He was a generous man who enjoyed helping others and working in his garden. He loved his dogs.

     Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at 11:00 AM (EST) at the graveside in Hillcrest Cemetery in Lanett, AL. The Rev. Eugene McCarley will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM (EST) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Lanett.
