Mr. Jesse “J.L.” Johnson, 89, of Valley, AL passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at his residence. He was born on October 5, 1927 in LaFayette, AL to the late Jesse D. Johnson and Gladys King.

     Mr. Johnson is survived by his six children, Mary (Ron) Buford of Zionsville, IN, Geraldine Hiett of Anniston, AL, Linda (Bobby) Tolbert of Valley, AL, Brenda Anderson of Lanett, AL, Jonathan (Jaime) Johnson of Lakeland, FL, and Jordan (Brett) House of Lakeland, FL; four siblings, Dianne K. Shelnutt of West Point, GA, Claude Johnson of New Baltimore, MI, Norman (Sheryl) Johnson of Petaluma, CA, and Floyd (Rosie) Johnson of Lakeland, FL; eleven grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.

     He was preceded in death by five siblings, Helen Curvin, Juanita Sinclair, Doris Osborne, Frank Johnson, and Gale King; granddaughter, Jessica Johnson; son-in-law, Jerry W. Hiett. 

     Mr. Johnson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shawmut. He was an adventurous gentleman who loved his family, God, his church, and to travel. He always had a smile on his face.

     Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 2:00 PM (EST) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. Chuck Anderson and Rev. David Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM (EST) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
