Lataine Tanner Moore, 92, of Montgomery formerly of Lanett, Alabama died Sunday afternoon July 9, 2017 at her home with her children by her side.

Lataine was born in Alma, Georgia June 9, 1925 to Arvin Lankford Tanner and Polly Sears Tanner.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her baby sister, Peggy Tanner, her brothers, Bill Jack Tanner, Clovis Tanner, and her husband, Donald P. Moore. She is survived by her children, Brian P. Moore (Teresa) of Auburn, Molly M. Fulghum (Jeff) of LaGrange, GA, one grandson, James Cameron Nix, Auburn, AL, her sister, Jimmie Quinn of Alma, GA, brothers, Pat Tanner (Lynn) of Alma, GA and Paul Tanner (Elfie) of Beachmere, Queensland, Australia, sister in law, Mary Lou Tanner of Alma, GA, brother in law, Bill Dixon (Kay) of Birmingham and a whole host of nieces and nephews.

She grew up during the throes of the Great Depression and WWII, raised on a tobacco farm in Alma, Georgia.  She began working at an early age, being the oldest of the seven siblings and having lost her mother to childbirth when Lataine was just 16. She always said that most people didn’t know what really hard work was that didn’t work in the fields having to sucker tobacco. She graduated from Bacon County High School in 1943 and moved to Atlanta, GA in the 1950’s where she worked in the accounts payable department for Fulton Supply Company. While living in Atlanta she met her husband Donald. They were married in 1961 and moved to Auburn, Alabama. In 1964 they moved to the family farm in Chambers County where she and Donald ran a cattle operation and raised vegetable crops. She also later worked for 15 years and retired from West Point Pepperell’s accounts payable department in West Point, GA.

She was a master at gardening, having vegetable and flower gardens her entire life; she had the ability to grow almost anything successfully. It was one of her true passions.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shawmut, Valley, AL
