Carol Hicks Snider, a gifted artist and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at her home in Lanett, Alabama.

She was born on June 30, 1930 in Fairfax, Alabama, the daughter of Albert and Lois Hicks.  Carol was married to James “Bubber” Snider on August 31, 1950 until his death March 7, 2016.  Carol made many moves as the wife of an FBI agent, leaving her home in Alabama for Chicago Illinois and Newark, New Jersey before a joyful transfer back south to Birmingham, Alabama and then Mobile, Alabama. She adopted every city she lived in as home and became active in community and church.  Carol never considered herself an athlete though she studied and practiced the game of golf and became a respected player. She and her husband James enjoyed this sport together for many years.  Carol and James eventually returned to their hometown to be near family and friends.  Their home in Lanett was a place that was always welcoming for their children and grandchildren and anyone else that knocked on the door.

Carol’s gentle yet tenacious spirit remained with her through the years.  She had a lifelong love of learning and sense of wonder that was passed on to her children and grandchildren.  Throughout her life Carol used her creative talents to make the world around her more beautiful and more peaceful for others.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Henry) Hart of Alexandria, Virginia, her son, Christopher (Nancy) Snider of Longwood, Florida; grandchildren, James (Melinda) Hart, Mariah (Thomas) Cushman, Katlyn Snider, and Hannah Snider; three great grandchildren, Samuel Hart, Adeline Hart and Patricia Rose Cushman;  her dear sister, Betty Jean West.   Carol’s husband James and grandson John Wesley Hart preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 2:00 pm EST at the Lanett First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Russell Williams and Rev. Reid Turner officiating.  Interment will follow at Fairfax Cemetery in Valley.  The family will receive friends Saturday in the church parlor from 1:00 pm EST until the service hour.
