J.R. Gordy

     Mr. J.R. Gordy, age 97, of Valley, AL passed away on Friday, April 6th, 2018 at Bethany House in Auburn, AL. He was born on May 23rd, 1920 in LaGrange, GA.

     Mr. Gordy is survived by his two sons, James Robert “Bobby” Gordy and Dana Mark Gordy; his four grandchildren, Jody Mark (Dottie) Gordy, James Kevin (Kathy Siggers) Gordy, Amber Diane Gordy, and Josh Gordy; his seven great grandchildren, Tiffany Gordy, Adrianna Gordy, David Gordy, Chloe Laney, Brian Bailey, Tiffany Rollins, and James Rollins; his four nieces, Joyce (Billy) Reese-Ward, Michelle Reese, Amy Humphrey, and Lou Ann Humphrey.

     He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Melzie Gordy; his daughter-in-law, Sheila Gordy, and his great-great grandson, Carter Smith.

     Mr. Gordy was a U.S. Army veteran who served our country during World War II. He was a member of West Point Pepperell’s 50 Year Club. He enjoyed spending time on the river and dancing with his wife. He led a full life and loved to spend time on his porch in his rocking chair chewing tobacco.

     Services will be held at a later date.
