Mr. John Winston “Winfred” Strong, age 92, of West Point, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, September 7th, 2019 at his residence. He was born on April 2nd, 1927 in Malone, Alabama.
Mr. Strong is survived by his children, Linda Faye (Lynn) Duncan, Larry Winston (Ginger) Strong, and Jerry Wayne (Glenda) Strong; his sister, Leona Strong Lake; his fifteen grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren, and twenty-seven great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-eight years, Nellie Ruth Messer Strong; his daughter, Shelia J. Spires, his grandson, Larry Scott “Scottie” Strong; his father, Leon Strong; his mother, Lillie Knight Strong; his sisters, Catherine Smith, Ruthie Hamlett, Alvie Mae Lake, Pearl Oliver, and Annie O’Dean Hayes; his brother, Andrew Earl Strong.
Mr. Strong was an active member of Davidson Baptist Church in West Point where he served as a Deacon and enjoyed helping others. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He enjoyed farming. He loved and enjoyed his family.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 10th, 2019 at 11:00 AM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley, Alabama. Interment will follow in Marseilles Cemetery. The Revered Howard Longshore and the Reverend Larry Cummins will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
