Mr. Allen W. Hendrix, age 71, of Valley, Alabama passed away on Friday, September 7th, 2018 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama.
Mr. Hendrix was born on December 6th, 1946 in Langdale, Alabama to the late J.T. and Hazel Murrow Hendrix.
Allen was a member of the Langdale United Methodist Church.
He worked for the West Point Stevens Company and then for the City of Valley.
Allen was a very active and instrumental citizen in the city of Valley and Chambers County. He was an active member of the committee that was formed to create the City of Valley. He served on the first city council of Valley and was a councilman for 12 years. After serving as a councilman, he was a faithful employee of the city for 21 years, retiring from the city in 2014. Allen was also on the Chambers County Development Authority for 23 years and he was a member of the Valley Kiwanis Club for 25 years.
Allen enjoyed spending time on the river and enjoying its beauty. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Emily May Hendrix; son, Jeff Hendrix, Valley; grandsons, Joseph Hendrix, Hayden Hendrix, and Bryson Hendrix; brother, Larry (Sue) Hendrix, Opelika.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 12th, 2018 at 3:30P.M. EDT at the Langdale United Methodist Church with interment following in Johnson Memorial Gardens. The Reverends Rusty Tate, Paul Messer, and James Haskens will all officiate the service. His family will be receiving friends at the church on Wednesday from 1:00P.M. EDT until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Allen’s memory to the Langdale United Methodist Church’s Barrel of Love Fund.
