Mr. Charles A. Barber

Mr. Charles A. Barber, 89, of Lanett passed away Monday, December 24, 2018 at Valley Park Manor in Valley, Alabama. 

Mr. Barber was born on April 12, 1929 in Lanett, Alabama, the son of the late John A. Barber and Mary Ida Harrison.  He was a lifelong resident of Randolph and Chambers Counties in Alabama.  He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-five years, Clara Jean Lipham Barber. 

Mr. Barber was a hardworking and supportive father, father-in-law, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  His helpful and dependable nature was felt by all whose paths he crossed.  He will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him. 

Surviving Mr. Barber are his three sons, John A. (Lamar) Barber of Blairsville, GA, James “Jim” (Diana) Barber of Suwanee, GA, Jerry (Luanne) Barber of Lanett, AL; five grandchildren, Nekol (Richard) Barber-Schmidt of Marietta, GA; Andrew (Brittany) Barber, Valley, AL; Lindsey (Brandon) Mitchell of LaGrange, GA; Steven Barber and Daniel Barber both of Suwanee, GA; four great-grandchildren, Austin Barber, Cordelia Schmidt, Ava Barber and Kaden Mitchell. 

Mr. Barber was veteran of the 4th Army Division and an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Lanett, Alabama.  He retired from Cook & Sons Lumber Company after 32 years of service. 

Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 PM EST Wednesday at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley, Alabama.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 11:00 AM EST at the First United Methodist Church in Lanett, Alabama with Rev. Reid Turner and Rev. Donnie Erwin-Brown officiating.  Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Lanett.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice in Phenix City, Alabama.
