I am very sad today at the passing of a man who I greatly admired and respected. Crew and Helen were always in our lives when I was growing up. Helen and my Mother both played piano at our church , Midway Baptist. Helen was the Bible School Director for several years.

As for Crew , I don't know that I could say it any better than the obituary did. What a valuable man he was to his church and community ! I had the opportunity to visit with he and Helen about a year before she went Home. Jeff Dye and I spent about an hour with them that day. As I type these words I reflect on that visit , on the catching up we did , the laughter we shared. It is the way I personally want to remember Crew and Helen.

At the time , that visit seemed like a rare chance to reconnect with old friends. Now however, that visit will be filed away in both my head and especially in my heart as one of my most memorable days . I am honored to have known Crew. I am honored to have called he and Helen friends and Midway people. I miss them both now, every day.

We are all diminished any time folk like Crew and Helen go Home. But as I said elsewhere yesterday , Heaven has been greatly enlarged. I am sure Helen and Mother have shared many a cup of coffee by now , and had a cup ready for Crew when he walked through the Gates. Our love to Lee and the family. We will remember you guys in prayer for the strength you will need going forward ... for as many tomorrows as it takes

Crew was my great-uncle, but he was also my friend. When I would visit Crew, I felt as if I were going to class and being taught by this wonderful man how to love and help others. Crew certainly knew how to do that so well.

I will miss our long talks about family, television production, but most of all, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

As a neighbor from years ago, and as a friend, they don't come any better than Mr Crew.
