Mrs. Young was born on January 16th, 1934 in Lanett, Alabama to the late Amos and Pearl Beard.  She was also preceded in death by her brother, Amos (Billy) Beard.

She was a member of the West Point United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Young attended Lanett Schools and later was a teacher in the Chambers County and Lanett City School Systems.  She and her husband loved to travel in all 50 states and Canada, from the east coast to the west coast.

In 1952, they moved to Buffalo, New York for 37 years.  She worked for the Buffalo School Board.  She was a Girl Scout leader, president of the Women’s Division of Ismail Temple Shriners. When her three sons became Cub Scouts, she became a Cub leader and stayed in the Boy Scouts for over fifty years. She was trained in “Scouting in The Church’s Ministry” at Philmount, New Mexico Scout Ranch.  The Scout Council of Columbus, Georgia awarded her the “Silver Beaver Award”, the highest award an adult can receive in a council.  During her scouting years, she was the manager of the Scout Office in West Point, Georgia for eleven years.

Mrs. Young was honored by the Methodist Church and the Boy Scouts. She received the “God and Service” award. There are very few of this award in our area.  After retirement, she enjoyed helping at the church, and enjoyed singing in the choir. She enjoyed playing her Wurlitzer Organ at home.  Cooking and keeping house was her pleasure.  She was a devoted wife.
