Roy Leon Hill, Jr.

     Mr. Roy Leon Hill, Jr. passed away peacefully on November 14th, 2019 at East Alabama Medical Center after a nine year journey with Alzheimer’s Disease. 

     He was born on April 24th, 1932 in Langdale at his grandparent’s (Hamil) boarding house. 

     Mr. Hill was raised in Langdale and graduated from Valley Vocational High School then graduated from Auburn University (API) in 1956 in Textile Management. 

     He was an active member at the First Baptist Church of Valley for many years where he served as a Deacon and as a Sunday School teacher.  He later joined the Langdale United Methodist Church where he was a member and a Sunday School teacher of the Crusaders Class. 

     Roy was very active in the community and in civic organizations.  He was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club in Valley, Columbus, and LaGrange, serving as United Way Chairman and Board member while in LaGrange. 

     Roy was very active with the Red Cross, serving as the local chairman.  He also served on the George H. Lanier Scout Council, and was on the Board of Lanier Hospital for two terms.  Additionally, Roy served on the Board of the Riverbend Assisted Living Center, and was a longtime member of the American Legion, where he served as Post Commander. 

     Roy is survived by his wife of 68 years, Euthel Garrett Hill; his daughter, Lona (Jimmy) Hawkins; his son, Leon (Donna) Hill; his four grandchildren, Hayley (Gavin) Kleinknecht, Hunter (Kaylea) Hill, Meredith (David) Kelton, and Jennifer (Partlow) Willings; his great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Cannon Kleinknecht, Hunt, Frances, and Ann Hill, Mary Elliott, Grady, and Hill Kelton, and Mimi, Haynes, and Partlow Willings; and his brother, Clark Hill. 

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and Roy Hill, Sr.; his brother, Charlie Hugh Hill. 

     Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 18th, 2019 at 2:00 PM (EST) at the Langdale United Methodist Church.  Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.  The Reverend John Gates and the Reverend Rusty Tate will officiate.  The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 1:00 PM (EST) until the service hour at the church. 

     The family respectfully declines gifts of flowers and suggests that memorials be directed to Langdale United Methodist Church in his memory.
