Mrs. Sue Middleton Newton, age 91 of Lanett, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, September 18th, 2019 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama. She was born on July 9th, 1928 in Chambers County, Alabama to the late Rosa Beaird Middleton and J. T. “Bill” Middleton.
Mrs. Newton is survived by her children, Stanley (Eiko) Newton of Cusseta, Alabama, Diane (David) Cooper of St. Augustine, Florida, and Debbie (Dave) Beaucar of Vincent, Alabama; her brother, Jack (Miriam) Middleton of Westminster, Colorado; her brother in law, Rev. Don Goodwin of Birmingham, Alabama; eight grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, W. Claude Newton; her son, Mike Broach; her sister, Ann Goodwin.
Mrs. Newton was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lanett where she greatly enjoyed teaching her Sunday school class. She worked at Bartlett’s Clothing Store for thirty years. Her favorite hobbies were doing crossword puzzles and knitting.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 21st, 2019 at 2:00 PM (EDT) at the graveside in Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett. The Reverend Ronnie Jordan will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Lanett or to the charity of one’s choice in her memory.
