Mr. Thaniel Smith, age 83, of Lanett, AL passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at the EAMC Lanier Nursing Home in Valley, AL.

     Mr. Smith is survived by his four children, Gerald (Deanna) Smith of Valley, AL, Lisa (Tony) Umberger of Roanoke, Al, Saundra Smith of Wadley, AL, and Wiley (Lynn) Bishop of Wetumpka, AL; his eight grandchildren, Colin Smith, Connor Smith, Meagan Umberger, Cory Umberger, Tonya (Eric) Laney, Whitney Lashley, Stephen (Taylor) Bishop, and Hunter Bishop; his five great grandchildren, Abby Berry, Alexis Berry, Haley Laney, Brayden Laney, and Madelyn Bishop; his sister, Lenora (Lamar) Fuller of Valley, AL; his special nephew, Jody (Pam) Keeble; a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

     Mr. Smith was born on June 16, 1934 in Heard County, GA to the late Mr. and Mrs. Ike Smith. He was a member of Faith Evangelistic Church in Valley. He was an avid Alabama fan who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. During his time in in the Air Force he was a member of a Presidential Honor Guard. He was a loving father and grandfather.

     Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 11:00 AM (EST) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley, Al with Youth Pastor Connor Smith and Brother Brad Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday morning from 10:00 AM (EST) until the service hour at the funeral home.
