Mrs. Alice Hadaway Duffie of Lanett, Alabama passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on November 23rd, 2023.
She was born on May 1, 1925, in Buchanan, Georgia. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother as well as aunt, sister and daughter in her lifetime. She was a true example of a selfless, generous and giving soul who devoted her life to her family, friends, church, and her Lord Jesus.
Her happiest moments were in her kitchen lovingly preparing meals for family, friends, or the many church dinners she was involved in or in her gardens sharing her bounty with everyone around her. Her greatest gifts were her labors of love for so many.
She also loved to celebrate Christmas and make it so special for her family and friends with her traditions, decorations, and generosity with everyone she knew.
Alice was an active member of Sunset Heights Baptist Church where she tirelessly served as church clerk for decades as well as in many other roles and on several committees in her 50+ years there until her health prevented her from being able to do so anymore. To her, she did not just GO to church, she believed in BEING the church!
She leaves behind many cherished memories and loved ones who will miss her dearly but celebrate the promise to see her again! Her legacy of kindness, generosity and steadfast faithfulness will live on to inspire those of us left behind.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Spearman Brooks and Eula Hill Brooks; sisters, Francis Brooks Arnett, Iris Brooks Guest; brothers, James Brooks and Wayne Brooks; husbands, Lewis Fuller Hadaway, William Clarence Duffie; Son-In-Law, Harold Lauderdale.
She is survived by her daughters, Gail Hadaway (Don) Dozier of Valley, Alabama, Priscilla Hadaway Vickery of Canton, Georgia, Deborah Hadaway Lauderdale of Lanett, Alabama; grandchildren, Melissa Dozier (Craig) Butts, Leah Dozier (Robbie) Nelson, Kelley Vickery Johns, Elizabeth Vickery Walton, Hollie Lauderdale (David) Zachry, Mark (Lindsay) Lauderdale; Great-grandchildren, Brittany Butts, Ethan, Ashley and Sarah Beth Johns, Jack, Jesse and James Walton, Miles, Brooks and Colton Zachry, Austin Morgan and Lawton and Russell Lauderdale.
A special thank you to her loving caregivers and nurses at Compasses: Lillian Moss, Jessica, Bekka, and Kristie.
