Mrs. Barbara J. McCollum passed away August 21,2025 in Carrollton Georgia after a long illness. She was born on April 16, 1942, in West Point Georgia, the daughter of Johnson Owen and Leiliah Newman. Mrs. McCollum was a 1960 graduate of Valley High School and the University of Central Florida. She retired from civil service having worked for the Dept. of the Army, Defense Dept. and Dept. of the Navy. She worked with classified documents and intelligence and received numerous awards and citations for her service. After retiring from civil service she worked for the City of Orlando, retiring from there after 15 years. Bobby was a wonderful pianist and very good artist.
She was predeceased by both parents, her husband James McCollum, and her brother-in-law Randall Mosley. She is survived by her brother Bill Elliott (Dr. Pam Elliott and her children Janee Keith, Larry Keith, and Calvin Perry), sisters Lynn Mosley, and Marie Cruz (Nelson), cousins Edward O. Brown and Ann Brown and her 2 cats Boo and Blackie.
Funeral services for Bobby will be held on Wednesday, August 27th, 2025, at 11:00 AM (EDT) at Johnson Brown Service in Valley, Alabama. Interment will follow in Shawmut Cemetery. Pastor Rusty Letson will officiate. Bobby’s family will receive friends for visitation Wednesday morning from 10:00 - 11:00 AM (EDT) until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, Bobby’s family requests that donations be made to the Chattahoochee Valley Human Society.
