Batson B. Davis Obituary

Mr. Batson B. Davis, 91, of Valley, Alabama passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at East Alabama Lanier Skilled Nursing in Valley, Alabama. Mr. Davis was born on May 11, 1928 in Langdale, Alabama to Rosa Lee Robertson Davis and Aubrey Davis.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 69 years, Alice McRay Davis and his daughters, Valerie (Steve) Taylor of Asheville, North Carolina and Fran (Buddy) Groover of Lanett, Alabama. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew Taylor of Dallas Texas, Stephanie (Robert) Kelley of Asheville, North Carolina, Logan Groover and Ryan Groover of Lanett, Alabama, and Chelsea and Colby Groover of Birmingham, Alabama; great grandchildren, Eli and Evangeline Kelley of Asheville, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Handley Davis.

Mr. Davis began working at Langdale Mill in 1944 at the age of 16. From 1951-1952 he served the Armed Forces of the United States as a Master Sargent stationed in Japan. In 1952 when he returned home, he continued his employment at Langdale Mill and retired from there with 52 years of service and was a member of the 50 Year Club. After retirement from Langdale Mill, he worked for several years at Ponder’s Nursery and H&R Block Tax Service.

Mr. Davis was a dedicated choir member at Langdale United Methodist Church where he also served as a Sunday School teacher, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and member of numerous church committees. In addition to singing with the church choir, he spent many years singing with various quartets and was a soloist on many occasions.

Prior to his retirement, he was also a member of the local Kiwanis Club where he served as President and held the distinction of having perfect attendance for his years as a member.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Langdale United Methodist Church, Valley, Alabama, at 2:00 PM EST. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM EST at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Langdale United Methodist Church in his memory.
