Brenda Godfrey Hart

     With hearts both heavy and grateful for a life so beautifully lived, we remember and honor the life of Brenda Godfrey Hart, who passed away on her 83rd birthday, August 29, 2024, at her cherished home in West Point, Georgia. Brenda, a beloved figure in her community and an inspiration to all who knew her, embraced life with a generous spirit, a friendly demeanor, and an intelligent mind, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her family and friends.

     Born on August 29, 1941, in the same quaint town of West Point, Brenda's roots ran deep into the Georgian soil. Throughout her fulfilling life, she was a beacon of light to her family, which includes her son, Keith S. Hart, and his wife, Kristie; her cherished grandchildren, Victoria Rebecca Hart, Sabrina Grace Hart, and Serah Elizabeth Dixon, and her husband, Jeremiah; as well as her adored bonus grandchild, Hu-Ellen Steele Perry, along with her husband, Randy. Brenda was also the proud great-grandmother to Hartleigh Marie Dixon, Milani Ray Askew, Bryce Oliver Perry, and Samantha Diane Perry. She will remain the beloved sister-in-law to Sandra Godfrey and endeared aunt to nephews Kevin (Betsy) and Jonathan (Jenny) Godfrey, with the delightful anticipation of meeting her great-niece, whose arrival is on the horizon. Brenda was predeceased by her husband, William S. Hart; her dear parents, Howard and Sarah Godfrey, and her brother, Kenneth Godfrey, who she held close to her heart.

     As a devout member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, Brenda's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She found her calling in the education sector, beginning her impactful career at Boy's Junior High in LaGrange, Georgia, and later serving at LaGrange High School until her retirement. Her dedication to her students and the community was palpable, and her legacy as a compassionate and insightful educator persists.

     Brenda nurtured a profound connection to the natural world, taking joy in flora and fauna alike. She was often found tending her vibrant flower beds or appreciating the company of the whimsical squirrels, raccoons, and birds that frequented her garden. A talented painter, she expressed her love for beauty and tranquility through her art, generously gifting her works to adorn the lives of those around her.

     In bidding farewell to Brenda Godfrey Hart, we celebrate a life defined by kindness, curiosity, and the joys of simple pleasures. Her wisdom, laughter, and tender presence will be dearly missed by all. Though she may have taken her leave from this world, her spirit remains a guiding light, a testament to a life richly and fully lived.

     Funeral services for Brenda will be held on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024, at 11:00 AM (EDT) at Bethel United Methodist Church in West Point, Georgia. The Reverend Betty Jean Bowers will officiate. Brenda’s family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 PM (EDT) at Bethel United Methodist Church.

     Those who received paintings from Brenda are invited to bring her works of art to the visitation and service to be displayed for all to see. (Those who bring paintings will of course be allowed to take them home following visitation and the service)
