Carl E. Edmondson Obituary

Carl E. Edmondson, a man of profound love, generosity, and selflessness, passed away of natural causes on October 20, 2023, in Opelika, AL. Carl’s life is a testament to his dedication to hard work and an unyielding love for his family.

Born on March 19, 1944, in Troup County, Georgia, Carl attended LaGrange High School. He later graduated from Robinson High School in Tampa, Florida. He served his country with honor in the United States Air Force before studying marketing at LaGrange College. Carl’s work ethic was an unparalleled example for those around him. He worked for Edmondson’s TV Sales and Service, becoming owner and operator until 1983. He then joined the team at the Uniroyal plant in Opelika, working until his well-deserved retirement in 2006.

Carl was a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart, Edna Mitchell Edmondson, for 61 years. Their marriage is a testament to the power of commitment and unconditional love. Together they raised three wonderful sons, Bobby (Kimberly), Rodney, and Todd (Jackie) Edmondson. The boys inherited their father’s strength of character and love for family.

He was a proud grandfather to Alex (Sam) Johnson, Anda, Abby, Sarah Kate, and Mary Elizabeth Edmondson. He also experienced the joy of being a great-grandfather to Ryan and Rory Johnson.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents Frances Smith Edmondson and O.C. Edmondson, his son Rodney, and siblings Richard Thomas Edmondson and Voncille Edmondson Morman. He leaves behind his sister, Sharon Arrington, two sister-in-law, Charlotte (Aaron) Price and Nora Yarbrough, brother-in-law Carlton Yarbrough, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A member of the Baptist faith, Carl loved deeply and prayed often. He was an ardent Alabama fan and Atlanta Braves enthusiast. He found joy in simple pleasures like fishing, boating, and quail hunting. He was a lover of the great outdoors and spent much of his time in his garden, yard, or on the lake.

Carl was a rock in the lives of those he knew and loved.
