We are heartbroken to share the passing of Christopher James Oliver, known to many as “Grasshopper.” He was born on January 13, 1957, in Langdale, Alabama, and passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Chris shared 44 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Wanda Hodge Oliver. He was a loving father to his daughter, Cassie Oliver Gordon (Jeremy) of Lanett, Alabama, and a proud grandfather to Jacob Gordon, who brought him so much joy. He is also survived by his sister, Cathy Oliver Henry (Russell) of Lanett; his sister-in-law, Cynthia Comer of Utah; and nieces Raven Henry Nichols (Watson) of Lawrenceville, Georgia; Randalyn Henry of Opelika, Alabama; Julie Mecham (Jesse) of Utah; Lindsey Cannon (Blaine) of Utah; and Travis Comer (Michele) of Colorado, along with many great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce A. Oliver and Betty A. Shirley.
Chris loved being outdoors. Fishing, hunting, and gardening were some of his favorite ways to spend time. He especially enjoyed riding his Harley and taking trips to the mountains and to Port St. Joe. He was a loyal Alabama football fan and loved being around friends and family.
Chris was known for his honesty—you always knew where you stood with him. He was fiercely loyal to those he loved, and while he could be tough, his heart was big. He had a way of making people feel welcome, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
