Clara Belle Young

     Clara Belle Young, age 88, of Valley, Alabama passed away on October 13th, 2024, at her residence.

     Born in Claud, Alabama on November 9th, 1935, Devoted wife of Joseph "Joe" William Young, Jr. and a day care home provider for 30 years, caring for many teachers' children in the Forest Park, GA and Valley, AL areas. Member of Valley Church of Christ, wonderful cook, enjoyed congregational church singing, cross stitching and had a number of cats during her life. Graduate of Tallassee High School and attended many reunions.

     Survived by older son Bill Young who lives in Milton, FL, who with Tammy Anglin has two sons Adam Young and Garrett Young. Adam and Abbie Young have two daughters Charleigh Young and Janna Young of Valley, AL. Garrett and Brittney Young have a nine-month-old daughter named Clara-Ann, in honor of Clara Young. Bill Young and the late Tonya Young have stepsons Michael Walraven and Evan Kirkwood.

     Her only brother Wilbur Bass of Auburn, AL and the late Sue Bass. Niece Renee Bass Segrest and her spouse Tony Segrest, along with their son Brandon Segrest. Brandon and Rachel Segrest have three children, Ethan, Audrey and Anna. Nephew Brent Bass and his wife Sharon Bass along with their children Taylor and Derrick. The late Bryant Bass, a beloved nephew.

     Younger son Chris Young and Dr. Lisa Young of Auburn, AL have three children - Benjamin Young who now lives in Murfreesboro, TN; Emily Young and Gabe Young of Auburn, AL.

     Preceded in death by her devoted husband of 56 years Joe Young, her father Howard Bass of Tallassee, AL and Ida Belle Pitts Bass of Tallassee, who lived with Joe and Clara Young in her later years. Her mother-in-law Ellie "Jewel" Young who lived for some time near her parents in Tallassee, AL, but most of her life had lived in Oxford, Michigan near Clara Young's devoted niece Nell Franzel and her spouse Bill. Nell and Bill visited at least 2 to 4 times a year over many years and are now staying at her house with family now as preparations are made to celebrate the life of a kind, hard working, selfless devoted to Christ and her family woman, known by so many as "Mrs. Clara."

     Clara loved plants and many in her yard have a special connection to family who passed before her.

     Funeral services for Clara will be held on Thursday, October 17th, 2024, at 10:00 AM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. A graveside service will be held later that day at 2:00 PM (EDT) at Carrville Cemetery in Tallassee, Alabama. The Reverends Allen Daniels and Tony Whiddon will officiate. Clara’s family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 PM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
