Coley Ralph Hattaway Obituary

Coley Ralph Hattaway, affectionately known to all as Coley, a cherished soul of Chambers County, Alabama, left us on October 12, 2024, while surrounded by love at his residence in Valley, Alabama. Born on April 25, 1925, in Coffee County, Alabama Coley was a source of joy, friendliness, and unwavering courage throughout his 99 years of life.

A proud veteran, Coley served his nation valiantly in the United States Army during the tumultuous times of World War II. His intelligence and bravery were hallmarks of his character, both in service and in his community. His dedication continued through his lifetime as a devoted member of the Huguley Baptist Church, where he enriched the lives of fellow congregants with his involvement and steadfast faith.

Coley was a man who never met a stranger, and his amiable nature made him a beloved figure in the community. His passions were as simple as they were profound — he found joy in the tranquility of dove hunting, the patience of fishing, and the adventure of camping. But above all, Coley loved his family deeply. As the patriarch, he leaves behind a legacy woven through generations, survived by his sons Kenneth and Franklin Hattaway; his treasured grandchildren, Tina Faught with her spouse Max, and Chris Hattaway; along with his adored great-grandchildren, Thorne Faught, Kinsley Faught, Kiley Faught, Makayla Faught, McKenzie Hattaway, C.J. Hattaway, and Race Hattaway; and his cherished great-great-grandchildren, Bralynn Simmons, Max Ender Golden, Brynlee Turner, and Haizley Golden. He is also remembered by his brother Robert Hattaway and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Coley now rejoins his beloved wife, Merle Hattaway, as well as his parents, Robert and Mattie Hattaway, and siblings, Katrine, Define, and J.L. Hattaway, who preceded him in death.

Today, we celebrate Coley’s remarkable journey—a life marked by service, love, and the countless bonds he formed. His memory will continue to inspire and guide as a testament to a life well-lived.
