Connie Wilkerson Obituary

Connie Wilkerson passed away peacefully on February 4, 2024, in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 70. Born on May 21, 1953, in Langdale, Alabama, Connie's life was a tapestry of cherished moments and enduring relationships.

Connie's early years in the Valley were filled with the warmth of a close-knit community and the loving guidance of her parents, Alton P. Gaither and Mary Kate Latta Gaither. She was the beloved matriarch who brought joy and comfort to her family, friends, and all who knew her.

She was the loving wife of the late Joe H. Wilkerson, Sr., and the devoted mother to sons Michael and Christopher Wilkerson, the latter married to Michelle P. Wilkerson. Her life was further blessed with the arrival of her grandchildren, Isabella, Makayla, Deborah, Christopher II, and Willow Wilkerson, who brought her immeasurable happiness. Connie's brother, Ronald Gaither, also survives her, continuing the legacy of their family's love and unity. She was also preceded in death by her cherished son, Joe H. Wilkerson, Jr., and her dear twin daughters, Reba and Sheba, and her brother, Anthony Gaither.

Connie's life was a testament to her loving, thoughtful, and courageous spirit. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as crocheting, which she often said was like weaving the threads of love into a tangible form. Her greatest delight, however, was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart." This sentiment perfectly encapsulates Connie's approach to life, as she always emphasized the importance of love, kindness, and the deep connections that bind us together.”

-Helen Keller
