Don Coleman Snowden

Don Coleman Snowden, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025, in Opelika, Alabama, at the age of 74.

Born on August 12, 1950, in Valley, Alabama, Don's life was a testament to his adventurous spirit, kindness, and friendly demeanor that touched the lives of all who knew him.

Don proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy, a period of his life that instilled in him a sense of discipline and camaraderie that he carried into his civilian life. After his military service, he continued to make a positive impact on his community through his work and volunteer efforts.

His dedication to various children's charities, where he often combined his love for cooking and hunting with his desire to help others, was particularly noteworthy. He was a man of many interests, with a passion for the outdoors that was evident to anyone who joined him by a lake or in the woods. 

Aso, Don was an active member of Journey Church of Valley, where he found Jesus and was baptized.  His profound love for Jesus and his church family was uplifting and undeniable to many people.   

Don found joy in fishing and hunting, activities that not only brought him peace but also provided cherished memories with friends and family. His love for Alabama football was infectious, and game days were always a special occasion in the Snowden household. Don's enthusiasm for life extended to his love for playing cards, attending antique car shows, and following NASCAR and drag racing events. His adventurous nature was matched by his kind and friendly personality, making him a beloved figure at every gathering and a treasured companion on every adventure.

Above all, Don's role as a family man was paramount. He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Simpkins Snowden; daughter, Traci Beyer (Terry), was a source of immense pride, and his grandchildren, Lexie, Eli, Hannah, and Robbie, were the lights of his life. He cherished every moment spent with them, and his legacy of love and laughter will live on in their hearts. Don is also survived by his brother, Vernon Snowden, and step-sister, Lynda Watson , along with many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss his presence dearly. His special friend and caretaker, Norman Lovelace, stood by him with unwavering support and companionship, for which the Snowden family is eternally grateful.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Randolf "Doc" and Elitha Gipson, brother, Chris Snowden, and half sister, Julia.

Don Coleman Snowden's life was one of joy, service, and love.

His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. As we say goodbye to Don, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His memory will be cherished and honored by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held, for Don, 2:30 P.M (EST), Friday, January 31, 2025, at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home located in Valley, Alabama, with Brother Steve York officiating.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. (EST) until 2.30P.M. (EST), Friday, January 31, 2025, at the funeral home.
