Donald E. Whitlock Obituary

Donald E. Whitlock, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2023, in LaGrange, Georgia, just a few days shy of his 86th birthday. Born on April 21, 1937, in Lanett, Alabama, Donald was known for his kindness, friendliness, and thoughtfulness throughout his life.

A proud graduate of Auburn University, Donald dedicated his early years to educating and mentoring young minds as a high school coach and teacher. He later transitioned to a successful career at West Point Pepperell, from which he eventually retired. Donald's strong work ethic and dedication to his profession were evident to all who knew him.

Donald's love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his son, Jeff Whitlock (Gwen); daughter, Kim Whitlock Willis; stepdaughter, Lynn Metler (Paul); stepdaughter, Kim Williams; grandchildren, Kelly Dunn (Drew), Chad Whitlock (Katelyn), and Brooke Duncan (Jerrod); step-grandchildren, Nick Metler and Lauren DeFoor (Josh); great-grandchildren, Channing, Eiland, Ellison, and Bailey; and step-great-grandchildren, Jax and Lila. Affectionately known as "Papa" by his grandchildren, Donald's warm presence and unwavering support will be deeply missed by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and Bob Whitlock; his first wife, Mary Whitlock; his second wife, Linda Whitlock; and his brother, Ron Whitlock.

In his leisure time, Donald enjoyed hitting the golf course, where his friendly demeanor and sportsmanship were always on display. His love for the sport was matched only by his love for his family. Donald's kindness extended beyond his family, as he was known to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors in need.

Donald's legacy of kindness, friendliness, and thoughtfulness will live on through the many lives he touched. His family and friends will remember him as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who always put the needs of others before his own. As we mourn the loss of Donald E. Whitlock, we also celebrate the life of a man who made the world a better place through his unwavering kindness and love for his family.
