Dr. Jerald T. Clanton passed away March 2, 2026, at 81 years old, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 18, 1944, in West Point, GA to Theo and Irene Clanton.
Jerald is survived by his wife of 59 years Nancy, his daughter Stephanie, his brother Larry Clanton, sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Wayne Yarbrough, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jerald was a 1967 graduate of Auburn University. He then served two years in the United States Army Dental Clinic in Goppingen, Germany, which led to his career in the medical field. When he returned he went on to graduate from UAB School of Dentistry and UAB School of Medicine. Dr. Clanton practiced both Oral Surgery and Anesthesiology at UAB where he loved teaching and sharing his knowledge with medical students and residents throughout the years.
He and Nancy were lifelong members of the Methodist Church and attended Mountain Chapel Methodist in Vestavia.
He loved his boxer puppies, antique radios, sailing, skiing, fishing, and traveling with family and friends.
One of his greatest passions was traveling to Nicaragua on medical mission trips. For twenty years he was dedicated to providing excellent medical care while also empowering the local community.
A service will be held at Mountain Chapel Methodist Church Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
Visitation at 10:00 a.m. followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at the Alabama National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
