Felton Eugene "Gene" Yarbrough Obituary

Mr. Felton Eugene Yarbrough, age 91, of Valley, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 2, 2024. He was born August 2, 1932 to Olin and Maggie Oliver Yarbrough.

Gene is survived by his devoted son, Michael (Jan) Yarbrough of Valley; two granddaughters, Tai (William) Boos and Teel (Adam) Traylor all of Auburn, Alabama; the five lights of his life, his great-grandchildren, Bella Boos, Sadie Traylor, Connor Boos, AJ Traylor, and Michael Traylor all of Auburn, Alabama; two brothers, Wayne (Barbara) Yarbrough and Doyle (Jeannie) Yarbrough of Valley; one sister, Janette Tynes of Valley; and a multitude of nieces and nephews who all adore their Uncle Gene.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Faye, his precious daughter, Sheree who was never far from his thoughts; his sisters Pauline Beller and Louise Redding; and his brother, Lewis Yarbrough.

Pop, as he was known by his immediate family, was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church, where he worshipped his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and considered it an honor to have served his country in active combat. Gene retired from West Point Foundry after a long and successful career. Above all else, Pop loved the Lord and loved the people around him. He was known for being one of the most humble people you’d ever meet and for treating everyone with love, dignity, and respect.

Revelation 21:4-5 says, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making all things new!”

What a gift is it to know that Pop has been made whole and new in the presence of his Savior, basking in the fullness of joy. He set his mind on the things of Heaven and stored up his treasures there. He now has the great joy of laying them down before the throne of God.

Funeral services for Gene will be private.

The family would like to thank some of his other caregivers Diversicare in Lanett, AL, and Elaine Bridges. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Chattahoochee Hospice of Valley, AL in Pop’s memory.
