Gail Thompson Blackstone

     Gail Thompson Blackstone, a beloved educator and cherished member of the Valley, Alabama community, passed away on May 12, 2023, at the age of 73. Born on May 24, 1949, in Langdale, Alabama, to the late Helen Janney Thompson and Hudson Bryant Thompson, Gail dedicated her life to the education and well-being of countless children throughout her distinguished career.

     Gail was a proud graduate of Valley High School and later earned her degree from Troy University. She began her lifelong career as an educator in Chambers County, where she served as a teacher and principal until her retirement. Gail's passion for education did not wane in retirement, as she continued to serve as the principal of elementary education for Springwood School. Her dedication to her students and her profession left a lasting legacy of children who were fortunate enough to learn in her classroom.

     Those who knew Gail would describe her as kind, generous, and thoughtful. She had a unique ability to connect with her students and colleagues, creating an environment of warmth and support. Gail's generosity extended beyond the classroom, as she was known to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her thoughtfulness and genuine care for others made a lasting impact on the lives of many.

     Gail is survived by her brother, Tenon Ralph Thompson, who will undoubtedly miss her dearly. Gail's passing will leave a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and the countless students whose lives she touched.

     She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Thompson; father, Hudson Thompson; brother, Bryant Thompson; husbands, Bob Meadows and Jim Blackstone.

     As we remember Gail Thompson Blackstone, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations. Her unwavering dedication to education and her community will not be forgotten, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. Rest in peace, Gail, and thank you for the countless lives you touched throughout your remarkable life.

     Funeral services for Gail will be held on Monday, May 15th, 2023, at 2:00 PM (EST) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Fairfax Cemetery. No visitation is planned.  Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in memory of Gail to one's favorite charity.
