George Lewis "Sonny" Reed

     George Lewis "Sonny" Reed, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence in Lanett, Alabama, on May 3, 2024. Born on August 9, 1951, in LaGrange, Georgia, Sonny's warmth and generosity touched all who knew him throughout his 72 years of life.

     Sonny was a man of great character and work ethic, dedicating over four decades of his life to the Milliken Hillside Plant. His commitment to his work was paralleled only by his devotion to his family and his community.

     He is survived by his loving daughter, Kimberly Reed; his adored grandsons, Notorious Hopson and Joerjerious Hopson, who were the light of his life; his sister, Sherry Potts; and a host of nieces and nephews who will fondly remember their Uncle Sonny for his friendly and thoughtful nature. Sonny's legacy of kindness is a beacon that will continue to guide his family.

     Sonny was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet Roberts Reed, with whom he shared many joyful years. His parents, Willie Frank Reed and Minerva Heard Reed, his stepmother, Annie L. Bailey Reed, his brothers, Horace Reed and Willie Reed, his sister, Flora Lee Rome, and his special niece, Elizabeth White, as well as his two stepbrothers and three stepsisters, also preceded him in passing.

     Those who knew Sonny will recall his love for simple pleasures. He had an affinity for fish, which was among his favorite foods, and he could often be found enjoying a good cigar, a testament to his ability to savor life's moments. His love for gospel music was profound, with Shirley Caesar being his favorite artist, her soulful melodies often filling the rooms of his home.

     Above all, Sonny was a devoted grandfather. He cherished every moment spent with his grandsons, imparting wisdom and sharing in their laughter and dreams. His kind and friendly nature made him a beloved figure not only within his family but also within the broader community.

     As we bid farewell to George Lewis "Sonny" Reed, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by love, dedication, and a gentle spirit that will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His memory will continue to inspire and comfort us in the days to come.

     A memorial service for Sonny will be held on Wednesday, May 15th, 2024, at 2:30 PM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. The Reverend Donald Lancaster will officiate. Sonny’s family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 1:30 PM (EDT) until the service hour at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
