George Robert Mann, Sr. Obituary

 

George Robert Mann, Sr. was born November 22, 1930, and went to be with our Lord and Savior on March 28, 2022, at Bill Nichols State Veterans Home in Alexander City. 

Mr. Mann was born in Penton, Alabama to the late Walter and Eunice Howell Mann. He graduated from Lanett High School. He furthered his education at Coyle Electrical Technical College in Chicago, Illinois where he worked full time at Union Station in Chicago while working on his studies. He graduated as a Master Electrician before he joined the United States Air Force. He spent the majority of his time in the Air Force stationed at Erding AFB near Munich, Germany. While in Germany, George met the love of his life Nancy H. Wescott also known as Scottie, of Dover, New Hampshire. They were married for almost fifty years before Scottie passed in the year 2001. Scottie and George reared two sons, Bob and Billy.  George was very active in his boy’s lives serving as Scout Master for forty plus years. He attended four National Scout Jamborees as an instructor. He mentored hundreds of young men during his time as Scout Master. He was awarded the Coveted Silver Beaver Award for his service with the Scouts. Mr. Mann was a lifetime member of American Legion Post Number 141. He was a faithful member of St. Andrews Anglican Church in West Point, Georgia.

George was proceeded in death by his sister, Francis M. Marble; brothers, Howell, Richard, J.W., and Lewis.

He is survived by his sister, Bettye M. Bailey of Greenville, South Carolina. His two sons, George Robert Mann, Junior and William David Mann; his grandchildren, who know him as their Popi, Shana Nicole Arrington (Christopher) and Haley McCall Batchelor (Matthew); great grandchildren, Aleck Michael Arrington and Liam Hanley Arrington; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

George touched many lives in his hometown by making earrings and walking sticks to name a few and he will be greatly missed by everyone. 

A Celebration of His Life will be held at a later date.
