Glenda Sue Heath "Maw Maw" Obituary

Mrs. Glenda Sue Heath, age 86, of Lanett, Alabama passed away on October 10th, 2024, at Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama. She was born on November 7th, 1937, in Clay County, Alabama.

Maw Maw, as she was affectionately known by both family and the community, lived a life of quiet dedication and unwavering love. Born with a gentle spirit, she was a Godly woman who could move mountains with her gentle hands and quiet voice. Her heart and home were open to everyone, whether it was the family she cherished, friends who became family, or the stray animals that knew they wouldn’t go hungry if they found their way to her porch.

For several years in the 90’s, Maw Maw provided childcare for family members and local children. Her home was a place of comfort, safety, and the warm embrace of genuine Southern hospitality. Even while raising her own family, she still found time to nurture others, creating a lasting impact on the lives she touched.

Maw Maw was no stranger to hard work. In 1958, she began working at Chalk Lline, where her diligence and commitment earned her the respect of her peers. But it was in her home and garden where her efforts truly flourished. Each year, she cultivated a beautiful garden with fresh fruits and vegetables, which she lovingly tended with care. Her kitchen was always a source of fond memories for her family. She made sure there was always a meal ready for anyone stopping by. Biscuits, corn bread, and the kind of meals that felt like home were always on the menu.

She was a skilled tailor, able to fix any clothing emergency with the same care she poured into everything else. If something needed to be hemmed, or a button mended, Maw Maw was there, never complaining, never asking for anything in return. She was just happy to be able to help.

From her porch, she enjoyed people watching, quietly observing the world around her with the same calm patience she brought to every part of her life. She never complained, no matter the circumstance, and would go to the ends of the Earth for the ones she loved.

Maw Maw’s life was a testament to quiet strength, unwavering faith, and a deep, unconditional love that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her family loved her dearly, and the loud impact this quiet woman made will be sorely missed.

Maw Maw is survived by her daughters, Cathy Thrift and LaDonna Moss; grandchildren, Jason Barron, Jonathan Barron, Joshua Brown, Sydni Moss, Jackson Moss, and Wil Pike; great grandchildren, Blake Barron, Jessica Owens, and Cooper Barron; great-great grandchild, Kasen Owens; sisters, Janice McConnell and Opal Tyson; brothers, Donald Hutchinson and Bobby Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Reverend Bill Heath; parents, Willie and Cloteen Hutchinson; sisters, Ruth Browning, Joann Johnson, and Jean Tingle; brothers, Buddy Hutchinson and Leon Hutchinson.
