James David Conaway Jr., known affectionately as “Duke”, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2024, in Opelika, Alabama. Born on March 30, 1946, in Valley, Alabama, James was a man of kindness, wisdom, and remarkable handiness. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a cherished member of the community.
James's early years were spent in the nurturing care of his parents, James David Conaway and Doris Conaway. He shared a profound love with his late wife, Carol Conaway. He is survived by his sons, Token (Ashley) Conaway, David Conaway, Rusty (Vickie) Guizar, and Chase Williams; his daughters, Heather Clarke and Pam Preston; and numerous adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A proud attendee of Auburn University, James's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Conaway Electrical in 1979, a family legacy company that thrived under his guidance.
James's passions extended beyond his business. He was an ardent fan of Auburn Football and really loved to go fishing.
James's life was a testament to the enduring power of kindness and the value of a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a cornerstone of his family and community.
Services for James will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2024, at 2:00 EDT at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home. Visitation for friends and family will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M. EDT. Interment will follow in Harmony Memorial Park & Cemetery.
