James Terry Cotney, 71, of Lanett passed away peacefully at his home on September 24, 2024. Born in Lafayette, Alabama, to the late Faye and J.T. Cotney,
Terry attended Lanett High School and West Georgia Technical College. He worked at Linch's Appliances and West Point Pepperell's Service Center before retiring from Capital Refrigeration as an HVAC technician.
Terry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rebecca Jones Cotney of Lanett, his daughter Rachel Cotney (Monty Walsh) of Valley, and his beloved dog Bella. Terry also leaves behind a sister, Ann McLendon ( Robert) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, nephews Jeremy McLendon (Tiffany), Bradley Jones (Taylor), a niece, Brittany Jones (Preston Nichols), his aunts Betty Brown, Sarah Bradley, Marie Daniel, Evelyn Wagner, Barbara Roberts, and Leta Roberts, along with his many cousins. James Sanders and his wife Jan, lifelong friends, were considered by Terry to be family as well.
The family will welcome friends at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home for a visitation from 2:00pm until the service hour eastern time on Saturday, September 28th with a memorial service at 3:00 in the Johnson Brown-Service Chapel. Reverend Rusty Williams will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in Terry's name to Paws Humane Society, 4900 Milgen Road, Columbus, GA 31907
