Jane Bell Fields passed away peacefully on January 10, 2024, in Auburn, Alabama, at the age of 90. Born on April 17, 1933, in Langdale, Alabama, Jane's life was a testament to her faith-filled spirit and her unwavering dedication to her family and friends.
Jane was the cherished matriarch of her family, leaving behind a legacy of love and care. She is survived by her devoted children, Melvin T. Fields, Jr. (Mary), and Thomas F. Fields (Sharon); her adored grandson, Chase Fields (Madison); and her treasured great-granddaughter, Addison Claire. Jane's memory will also be fondly remembered by her sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Bell; her nieces, Tamra Bell Gilchrist, Amanda Bell, Aurelia Bell, and Patty Fields; as well as her great-nephews, Damon and Joshua, and great-nieces, Katelyn, Kami, and Aubrey. Her life was enriched by their presence, and she embraced every moment with them.
Preceding her in death were her beloved husband, Melvin T. Fields, Sr.; her brother, Thomas R. Bell; her parents, Thomas H. Bell and Aurelia "Peggy" Federline Bell Anthony and her dear parents-in-law, Ruby and Troy Fields.
Jane's role as a caregiver was a natural extension of her loving nature. She selflessly cared for several family members over the years, always stepping up to assume the responsibilities that were necessary. Her strength and compassion were a source of comfort and security to those she looked after.
An active lifestyle was a joy for Jane, who relished the adventures that came with being part of a military family. Her enthusiasm for life was infectious, and she found pleasure in the simplest of activities. Jane was an avid University of Alabama football fan, her spirit soaring with every touchdown. Her love for reading allowed her to travel to worlds beyond her own, while her passion for antiques spoke to her appreciation for history and craftsmanship.
Animals held a special place in Jane's heart, and she found joy in their companionship and the unconditional love they provided. Her garden was a canvas of color, reflecting her love for nature and her talent for nurturing growth. Walking was more than just exercise for Jane; it was a time for reflection, appreciation of her surroundings, and an opportunity to connect with her community.
Jane's life was a living example of the words that best describe her: loving, kind, and faith filled. She approached every day with a heart full of grace and a soul generated by love. Her kindness was a gentle force that made a profound impact on those around her. Her faith guided her through life's challenges and was the cornerstone of her existence.
As we bid farewell to Jane Bell Fields, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey completed with grace. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us, and her legacy will live on through the lives she touched. Jane's presence will be deeply missed, but the love she shared will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.
Flowers will be graciously accepted, or the family suggests that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Langdale Methodist Church Barrel of Love Fund or to the Chattahoochee Humane Society.
