Jimmy Lee "Bubba" Messer, Jr.

     Jimmy Lee "Bubba" Messer, Jr., a cherished family man known to all as Jimmy, passed away peacefully at his residence in Lanett, Alabama, on May 16, 2024. Born on February 25, 1956, in Griffin, Georgia, Jimmy's life was a testament to the values of love, kindness, and thoughtfulness that he embodied every day.

     Jimmy grew up in a lively household with his siblings Jerome, Crystal (Michael Fitzgerald), Peter, and Christina Messer, all of whom he shared an unbreakable bond. His life was further enriched by the joy of his grandchildren, Ian Renton, Cheyenne, Jaden, Lillian, and Neveah Messer, who will carry forward his legacy of love. He was a beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews, Jessica Lashley (Braxton), Logan Fitzgerald, Rickey Fitzgerald, Deborah Mitchell (John), and Jason Holloway (Marcy), each of whom held a special place in his heart.

     Jimmy was preceded in death by his treasured son, Eddie Joe Messer, his parents, Jimmy Messer and Sylvia Sikes, and his siblings Natasha Messer, Shirley Kitchens, and Jimmie Messer. The memories and lessons he shared with them will continue to guide and inspire his family.

     A man of faith, Jimmy was an active member of Midway Baptist Church, where he joyfully served as the song leader for the Choir. His love for his Lord was evident in his every action and in the gentle guidance he offered to all who knew him. Jimmy's musical talents extended beyond the church walls; he was also a gifted guitar and drum player, often filling his home with melodies that reflected the rhythm of his soul.

     Jimmy's passion for life was not limited to his musical endeavors. He was an ardent fan of the University of Alabama, cheering on his team with the same enthusiasm he brought to every aspect of his life. His love for reading provided him with endless knowledge and entertainment, while watching home movies allowed him to relive the precious moments he shared with his family. Jimmy was the heart of family events, always ensuring that each gathering was filled with laughter, warmth, and an abundance of love.

     Those who knew Jimmy would describe him as a sweet soul with a very kind heart. His loving nature was the cornerstone of his existence, and his thoughtful gestures never went unnoticed. Whether it was a comforting word, a helping hand, or a simple smile, Jimmy's presence was a beacon of positivity in the lives of those around him.

     Jimmy's legacy is one of unwavering love and kindness. His memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories told by his family and the countless lives he touched. As we bid farewell to Jimmy Lee "Bubba" Messer, Jr., we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to guide us, just as the North Star guides travelers in the night sky.

     Funeral services for Jimmy will be held on Monday, May 27th, 2024, at 11:00 AM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett. Pastor Terry Wood will officiate. Jimmy’s family will receive friends Monday morning from 10:00 AM (EDT) until the service hour at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
