John F. Dunn, Jr.

     Mr. John F. Dunn, Jr., age 85, of Lanett, Alabama passed away on Thursday, October 7th, 2021 in Roanoke, Alabama. He was born on April 18th, 1936 in Five Points, Alabama to the late Irene McKinney Dunn and John Dunn, Sr.

     John is survived by his daughters, Marie Dunn Ward (Greg), Alison Dunn (Chrystie), and Jenny Dunn Eastridge (Charlie); grandchildren, Kate Ward Bagley (Bryant), Kim Ward, Leah Ward Oliver (Ben), Alex Dunn, Tobie Dunn, and Justin Henson; great grandchildren, Sadie, James, and Walter Bagley; sisters, Jo Hollis (Harold) and Linda Brogden (Robert); brother-in-law, Porter Keeble; sister-in-law, Ann Spradlin.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Obereda Spradlin Dunn; sister, Nita Keeble; brother, Tommy Spradlin.

     John was of the Baptist faith. He was one of the founding fathers of Springwood School and was very active in Springwood athletics. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving for two years in Germany. He then went on to join the National Guard and was active during the Civil Rights Movement. He was the owner / operator of Holiday Exxon in Lanett for over 35 years. He had a great smile, an amazing wit, and loved to make others laugh. One of his favorite things to do was to take his family to Disney World.

     Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 12th, 2021 at 2:00 PM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Marseilles Cemetery. The Reverend John Brogdon will officiate. John’s family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
