Linda Hammock Obituary

Linda Hammock passed away peacefully on April 9, 2024, in Auburn, Alabama. Born on January 5, 1940, in Gabbettsville, Georgia, Linda's life was a testament to the power of kindness, generosity, and unwavering belief. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.

Linda's journey began as the daughter of Crawford A. and Beatrice Pugh, growing up alongside her brothers in the warmth of Gabbettsville's close-knit community. Her life was enriched by the love of her family, including her son, Gary Wayne Hammock and his wife Phyllis; her daughter, Cathy Lynn Coker and her husband Curtis; her adored granddaughter, Krystal Pike and her husband Daniel; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Callie and Cason Pike. She found strength and companionship in her brothers, James Phillip Pugh and Sandy Lee Pugh, with his wife Kitty. Linda was reunited in eternal peace with her beloved husband, Lewis W. Hammock, her parents, and her brothers Crawford A. Pugh, Jr., Jack Daniels Pugh, and William David Pugh, who preceded her in death.

A devout member of Johnson Chapel Baptist Church, Linda lived her faith with a grace that inspired all around her. She was a true Christian who not only preached the teachings of love and compassion but embodied them every day. Known as a Prayer Warrior and an evangelist, she touched countless lives through her spiritual guidance and unwavering support. Linda's voice, both in prayer and in poetry, resonated with a profound understanding of the human spirit, earning her recognition as a published poet.

Linda's resilience shone brightly as a cancer survivor, a battle she faced with courage and an unshakeable trust in her faith. Her strength in the face of adversity was a source of encouragement to many, proving that hope can flourish even in the most challenging times.

In her younger years, Linda found joy in the simplicity of fishing, a pastime that allowed her to bask in the serenity of nature. Her love for the outdoors extended to her home, where she cultivated beauty in her flower beds with the same care and attention she gave to her loved ones. Linda's commitment to her community was evident in her volunteer work for the Hike, Bike, Run event, where she contributed to the health and happiness of her neighbors.

Above all, Linda Hammock was the embodiment of love, thoughtfulness, and generosity. Her ability to listen with an open heart, to give without expectation, and to support without hesitation made her a pillar of her community and a source of comfort to her family. Her legacy is one of compassion and selflessness, a legacy that will continue to flourish in the lives of those she touched.
