Lula "Carol" McClendon Dickens

    Lula Carol McClendon Dickens, died Tuesday, March 9, 2026, at Lanier Nursing Home.

   Her partner for life was Sandra Ann Smith.

  Carol was the daughter of Walter Lewis McClendon and Florrie Williams. Carol was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1941.

  She has one sister, Jean, deceased. Carol grew up in Chattanooga until the age of 15 when her parents moved to LaGrange, Georgia, which was Walter Lewis’ home.

  Carol has nieces and many cousins. She had one relative that has been a close friend in her life who is Mary Etta McClendon Duke.

  Carol married Roy Selman Dickens in 1961 and later had her only child, David Lewis Dickens, deceased.

  Carol and Roy traveled from school to school while he finished his degrees. He became a college professor and was employed at Chapel Hill, North Carolina where he later died. Carol`s main duty while married was to support Roy with her life. Following his death, Carol came back to her Father’s home in Troup County, Georgia, She later became part of the Smith/Sides family.

  Carol was much loved by Willie and Mae Sides and their son, Billy Sides. She and Sandra Ann Smith lived together for 40 years beginning in 1986.

  Carol was ministered to by Terri O’Regan and Sandra Ann Smith. Carol’s favorite songs were sung. We prayed and kissed Carol until the end.

  Carol’s remains will be placed at Bethel Methodist Church on Webb Road in Troup County, Georgia beside her son and her beloved Mama Mac.

   A graveside memorial service for Carol will be held, 11:00 A.M. (EST), Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery, West Point, Georgia. Pastor Todd Owen will officiate.
