Lurline Fulghum Duffey Hanna

     We are gathered here to honor and celebrate the life of Lurline Fulghum Duffey Hanna, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister who brought love and light into the lives of all who knew her. Born on February 28, 1927, in West Point, Georgia, Lurline lived a remarkable life filled with dedication, work, and an abundance of affection for her family and friends. Her journey came to a peaceful end at the age of 97, when she passed away on July 8, 2024, at the EAMC Lanier Hospital in Valley, Alabama.

     Lurline's life was a testament to her character—loving, kind, and gentle. She cherished her family deeply. She leaves behind a legacy through her children, Linda Sims married to Larry, and Steve Duffey with his wife Pam. Her grandchildren, Kenny Sims with spouse LeAnn, Amber Sides with Toby, Lance Easterwood with Amy, and Judd Easterwood with Christina, will remember her tender presence and stories. Her great-grandchildren, Tyler and Ariel Sims, Cameron, Tucker, and Laurel Sides, Grant Easterwood, and Grace Fulcher married to Nicholas, along with Ashley, Arielle, Leah, Grayson, and Bryce Easterwood, grew up basking in her love. The newest bud on the family tree, great-great-granddaughter Amelia Ann Sims, symbolizes the continuation of Lurline’s lineage. Her brother, John Lee Fulghum, as well as an array of nieces and nephews, also survive her. Lurline was preceded in death by her caring parents, John and Rena Fulghum; her spouses, Ralph Duffey and John Hanna; and her daughter and son-in-law, Jerry Lee Easterwood and Bradley.

     A diligent worker, Lurline retired at the impressive age of 83. Her career spanned from making a significant contribution to the war effort in World War II at West Point Foundry, creating ammunition shells for the Allied forces, to roles with Cliff Averett and Riverside Buick, where she continued to demonstrate her admirable work ethic and pride in everything she did.

     As an active member of the First Christian Church in Lanett, Lurline nourished her spirit and community connections. Her love for dancing was well-known, bringing joy and rhythm to many gatherings.

     Lurine's life was a beautiful display of resilience, love, and grace. Her warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to cross her path. While she will be profoundly missed, her legacy of love and gentle kindness will continue to inspire and guide us. Today, we bid farewell to Lurline, remembering her not just for the years in her life, but for the life in her years.

     Funeral services for Lurline will be held on Thursday, July 11th, 2024, at 11:00 AM (EDT) at the graveside in Marseilles Cemetery in West Point, Georgia. No visitation is planned.
