Margaret Barnes Childs Obituary

Margaret Barnes Childs, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and educator, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2024, in Valley, Alabama, at the age of 75. Born on May 3, 1948, in Chambers County, Alabama, Margaret's life was a testament to her loving, selfless, and faith-filled spirit.

Margaret's journey began as the beloved daughter of Annie and James Emfinger, who preceded her in death. She grew up in the nurturing environment of her hometown, where she cultivated a passion for education and service. A proud graduate of Auburn University, Margaret dedicated 25 years to teaching Home Economics, touching the lives of countless students at Valley High School and W.F. Burns Middle School. Her commitment to education and her students' well-being left an indelible mark on the community.

In her personal life, Margaret was a devoted partner to her husband, Bill Childs, with whom she shared 18 wonderful years. Together, they built a life filled with love and mutual respect. She was a guiding light to her children, Angie (Craig) Moore and Jeff Barnes, and a doting grandmother to Cole and Beth Moore. Her family was the cornerstone of her existence, and she poured her heart into creating a warm and welcoming home for them.

Margaret's faith played a central role in her life. As a dedicated member of Todd Congregational Christian Church, she was actively involved in church activities, always eager to lend a helping hand and share her unwavering belief in the goodness of others. Her faith was her compass, guiding her through life's challenges and joys.

An avid gardener, Margaret found solace and joy in the beauty of flowers. Her garden was a reflection of her inner grace and the care she took in nurturing every bloom. She was also known for her talent in restoring antiques, a hobby that showcased her appreciation for history and her skill in breathing new life into cherished objects.

Margaret's love for her family was paralleled only by her love for baking, especially her famous brownies, which were a highlight at family gatherings and community events. Her culinary creations were a symbol of her desire to provide for and bring joy to those around her.

Those who knew Margaret would describe her as the epitome of love and selflessness. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel valued and loved, and her presence was a source of comfort and strength. As Helen Keller once said, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched—they must be felt with the heart." Margaret embodied this sentiment, leaving a legacy of love and kindness that will be felt for generations to come.

Margaret's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of devotion, compassion, and unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her gentle spirit.

Margaret Barnes Childs is survived by her loving husband, Bill Childs; her children, Angie (Craig) Moore and Jeff Barnes; and her cherished grandchildren, Cole and Beth Moore. Her memory will be forever cherished in the hearts of those who loved her.

As we bid farewell to Margaret, we take solace in knowing that her legacy will continue to bloom in the lives of those she nurtured and inspired. Her spirit, like the flowers she so lovingly tended, will remain a vibrant and enduring presence in our hearts.

Flowers will be accepted or the family requests that memorials be made in her memory to the Todd Congregational Christian Church.
