Margaret Jeanette Harris Obituary

Margaret Jeanette Harris passed away peacefully on March 8, 2024, in Valley, Alabama. Born on September 4, 1930, in Lanett, Alabama, Jeanette's life was a testament to her loving, faith-filled, and selfless nature.

Jeanette spent her early years in Lanett, where she was embraced by the tight-knit community and the lush landscapes of her hometown. Her work ethic and dedication to her community were evident through her years of service at the Woolworths and J.C. Penney's stores in West Point, Georgia. Later in life, she devoted herself to the full-time care and love of her family as a homemaker, a role she cherished deeply.

Jeanette's commitment to her faith was unwavering. As a member of Lanett First Methodist Church, she once played an active role in church activities, touching the lives of many with her kindness and generosity. Her interests were as varied as they were passionate. Jeanette was known for her delicious cakes, which brought joy to many family gatherings. She found solace in the pages of a good book and expressed her creativity through ceramics.

A sports enthusiast, Jeanette's support for the Columbus Cottonmouths Hockey Team was well known, and her love for Auburn University Athletics was unshakeable. She found great pleasure in traveling, exploring new places, and creating memories that would last a lifetime. However, it was her family that brought her the most joy. Jeanette's love for her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she nurtured those bonds with every fiber of her being.

Jeanette's legacy is carried on by her son and his wife, Mark and Tina Harris, her beloved granddaughter, Erika Wood, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who were all touched by her warmth and grace. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Marcus L. Harris, her parents, Willie Hugh Oliver and Mary Jewel Oliver, and her sister, Gaynell Haynes.

In her life, Jeanette embodied the words of Mother Teresa, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." This quote captures the essence of Jeanette's approach to life—every act of kindness, every moment of support, and every gesture of love were her small things done with great love.

Jeanette's presence will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her unwavering love, her gentle guidance, and her enduring faith have left an indelible mark on her family and community. Jeanette's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of love, faith, and selflessness, a tapestry that will be cherished and remembered by all.

As we bid farewell to Margaret Jeanette Harris, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey completed with grace. Her story does not end here, for she has left behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire and guide us for generations to come. Jeanette's memory will be a beacon of light, reminding us of the power of love and the strength of family. Rest in peace, dear Jeanette, until we meet again.
