Margie Green

     Mrs. Margie Green, age 95, of Lanett, Alabama passed away on Friday, July 26th, 2019 at the EAMC Lanier Nursing Home in Valley, Alabama.

     Margie was born on May 18, 1924 as Margie Louise Adcock, daughter of Beulah and Belton Adcock. She lived in Langdale (now Valley) Alabama with her parents until her marriage to John William (Bill) Smith on Oct 19, 1940. She gave birth to John Terrell Smith on May 23, 1942 and Charles Lewis Smith on October 18, 1943. The war was raging in Europe and John went into the Navy in May 18, 1944. Upon completing training in the Navy the war ended and he was discharged March 14, 1946 and returned home. The family subsequently moved to Lanett, Alabama and rented an apartment until moving into a mill village house at 7 SE 14th St. Betty Jeanette Smith was born on March 25, 1951 in Langdale hospital. Margie’s marriage to John ended in divorce in June 18, 1962 and soon after on Sept 29, 1962 she married Henry Woodruff Green. They had one son together, Randall Wayne Green, born Aug 5, 1964 in Langdale hospital.

     Margie was one of 7 children, they were Doyle, Harlon, Burma, Terrell, Bonnie and Leon, all deceased. Her two husbands are deceased. She is survived by three of her four children, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

     Margie had a rather domestic life with many ups and downs. When she was widowed, her son Randy built a new house and included a private suite for her. However, as time went on she wanted to go to the nursing facility in Valley and that’s where she remained for her last years.

     Margie knew something about the hope for the dead because she had studied the Bible and possessed a hope for a resurrection. According to Jesus own words “There will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous (John 5:28, 29). She did not believe that all good people go to heaven and all bad people go to hell and the earth would be destroyed. Contrary to most religious teachings she believed what the Bible said about the condition of the dead that those chosen by Jesus would have a heavenly life (the little flock with a limited number) and there would be a Great Crowd who would either survive Armageddon or be resurrected to the earth. That the earth would return to its original paradisaic condition and those living on earth would live forever under heaven’s rule. At one time, when she was younger she could quote a couple of dozen scripture verses that proved that fact. She believed she would be resurrected to the earth along with a large number of others, some of whom knew God and some who never knew God. And those would be taught to know Him and that death would be swallowed up forever and death would be done away with just like the Bible says. That was her hope.

     Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 28th, 2019 at 2:00 PM (EST) at the graveside in Langdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM (EST) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
