Marvin R. Eastridge, a beloved father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully of natural causes on July 28, 2023, in Valley, Alabama. He was born on June 19, 1935, in the small town of Beulah, Alabama, and throughout his lifetime, he exemplified the virtues of a thoughtful, selfless, and humorous man.
His devotion to faith and country was also evident in his serving in the National Guard Reserve during wartime.
Marvin was known for his hard work and dedication in the community. He served as the assistant manager of the A&P Grocery Store in West Point, Georgia, for several years, where his attention to detail and commitment to service made him a respected figure. Later, Marvin transitioned to work for the City of Lanett as a driver in Environmental Services. His dedication to his work was a testament to his selfless spirit, always prioritizing the needs of others before his own.
Outside of work, Marvin was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved woodworking, a craft that showcased his patience and meticulousness. He also took pleasure in lawn work, fishing, and "piddling" - a southern term for passing time leisurely. His love for the outdoors was not just a hobby; it was a reflection of his appreciation for nature's beauty and tranquility.
Marvin is survived by his children, Tammy Hollis (Paul) and Jeff Eastridge; his brother, Eugene Eastridge; his grandchildren, Tess Massey (Michael) and C.J. Lundy; and his great-grandchildren, Aidan and Gavin Massey. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruby Nell Eastridge, a son, Kenneth, and his four brothers and two sisters. His family remembers him as a pillar of strength, a beacon of wisdom, and a source of endless humor.
Marvin was a man who lived his life with a quiet dignity and a generous heart. His life was a living testament to the adage by Ralph Waldo Emerson: "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." He was a fine, upstanding southern Christian man, whose actions spoke louder than his words. His legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Marvin's laughter and sense of humor will be missed, but his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him. His life serves as a beautiful reminder that it's not the years in life that count, but the life in the years. As we remember Marvin, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, service, and joy. His was truly a life that mattered, and he will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
