Mary Annette Harris

     Mary Annette Harris, 88, of Smiths Station passed away peacefully Monday, May 20, 2024. She will proudly be remembered as “GrandMom” completely immersed in family, church community, and to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Annette married her sweetheart Charles “Bubber” Harris in 1953 and they spent 48 wonderful years together until he passed in 2001. She was unsparing in remembrance of her late husband and lifelong companion.

     They both were wholeheartedly involved at Epworth Methodist Church where she and Bubber planted deep roots in the fellowship, serving for decades in leadership and volunteer capacities. Never wanting to be the center of attention, she was selfless, giving, and kind to everyone. It was Annette’s uncanny wit, however, that captured all our hearts. Always sharp, full of wisdom, accurate and entertaining.

     She graduated from Valley High School and then attended nursing school at Georgia Baptist College in Atlanta. She rode the train roundtrip from Valley to her classes every day. With her nursing degree, she generously gave her time and talent for the benefit of others for 36 years. She worked for Dr. Lewis Norman in West Point in private practice until they both retired in 1985.

     Annette is survived by her son, Billy (Kathy) Harris of LaGrange, and two daughters, Nancy (Lance) Radermacher of Opelika and Jenny Tillery of Valley. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, and ten adoring great-grandchildren.

     A gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Friday, May 24th, 2024, at 10:00AM EST at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley, Alabama with Chapel Service following at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at Harmony Memorial Park Cemetery (formerly Resthaven). Reverend Grant Parker will officiate.
