Mavis Cummings Cotney Obituary

     Mrs. Mavis Cummings Cotney, age 85, of Lanett, Alabama passed away on Thursday, June 11th, 2020 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama. She was born on April 17th, 1935 in Manchester, Georgia to the late Mary Jane Hall Cummings and Thomas L. Cummings.

     She is survived by her son, Jeff (Deborah) Cotney of Valley, Alabama; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four nieces; and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, O. D. Cotney; daughter, Cathy Jane Cotney; son Randy Cotney.

     Mrs. Cotney was a member of Lanett Church of the Nazarene and a former employee of West Point Pepperell’s Lanett Mill. She was a very giving person who enjoyed helping others, cooking, and telling jokes. She loved going to her church and being with her church family.

     Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 14th, 2020 at 2:00 PM (EST) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. The Reverend Kent Pelton will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM (EST) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Lanett Church of the Nazarene or to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
