Milton Eugene Bethune Obituary

Milton Eugene Bethune, 83, entered into his eternal Heavenly home on April 22nd, 2024 at Bethany House in Auburn, AL. He was born on September 14th, 1940 in Augusta, GA to John Willie Bethune and Lessie Warie Bonham and was the youngest of fifteen children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lessie Bethune; all of his 14 siblings; his beloved wife, Audrey Ann Bethune; and his only son, Gregory Eugene Bethune. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Lori Bentley Bethune; three grandchildren, Aaron Bethune (Elizabeth), Caleb Bethune (Mary Helen), and Savannah Holley (Reese); his great-granddaughter, Stella Grace Bethune; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and his church family at Word of Life Tabernacle.

Milton was recruited by the United States Army at age 17 and served two years as a cook at Fort Jackson, SC. Upon discharge, he eloped and married his wife, Audrey Ann Crook. It wasn’t long after they married in 1960 that he began preaching the Gospel and would continue his work for the next 60 years. In addition to his preaching, he also built a successful construction business. He was highly sought in the Opelika / Auburn area due to his stellar craftsmanship.

Milton loved people and would help anyone he met that was in need. Most of all, he adored his family and treasured the moments he could spend with them. But above anything else he loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He served Jesus faithfully until he was called home. He continued to pray for others even while recuperating in the hospital just before entering his eternal rest.
