Mr. Alvin E. "Hip" Sanford

Mr. Alvin E. “Hip” Sanford, age 60, of Cusseta passed away on Monday, May 13^th, 2019 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.

Mr. Sanford was born in West Point, Georgia on August 25^th, 1958 to the late David E. Sanford and Dorothy Childs Sanford.  He was also preceded in death by a step-granddaughter, Morgan Ivey.

He graduated from Lanett High School and when he was younger raced motorbikes in Penton, Alabama.

Alvin was a very sweet, kind and loving person who always had a kind and humble word or humorous story to everyone that he met.  He was always willing to help others in any way that he could.   He was a volunteer firefighter for the Cusseta Volunteer Fire Department.

His passions in life were his family, riding his Harley Davidson, and classic cars and trucks.  He also held a brown belt in karate and practiced taekwondo. 

He is survived by his wife, Melissa Sanford; daughter, Karla Sanford; granddaughter, Lexi Sanford; sister, Dottie Sanford (Vince)  Johnson; niece, April Johnson; stepdaughters, Crystal (Clay)  Cook, Kathy (Daniel)  Miller; step grandchildren, Emily Ivey, Jeffery Miller, Daniel Miller, Tyler Miller; special cousins, Elbert and Lily McCarley.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 17^th, 2019 at 2:00P.M. EDT at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home chapel with interment to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Lanett.  His family will be receiving friends at the funeral hom Thursday evening from 6:00P.M. EDT until 8:00P.M. EDT.
