Mr. Joe Tyler Ragland Obituary

Mr. Joe Tyler Ragland, age 77, of Huguley passed away on October 4th, 2020 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.

Mr. Ragland was born in Chambers County, Alabama to the late Joseph Franklin Ragland and Maggie Whitehead Ragland.  Tyler was one of ten children born by his parents.

Tyler was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend.  He never met a stranger.  Those that knew him best have been the brunt of many a practical joke, as well as unconditional love and support shown in his own special way. He was known throughout the community for his cooking skills, especially his boiled peanuts and Neiman Marcus cookies! He was involved behind the scene in many community activities including relief efforts for storm victims, as well as support of the Christian Service Center. Tyler retired from Roadway Express, was a Captain in the Alabama State Trooper Auxiliary, and worked with the Chambers County Sheriff’s Department.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Camilla Brooks Ragland; fur baby, Jax; sons, Ken (Melanie) Ragland, Semmes, AL., Wayne (Taunya) Ragland, Beulah, TSgt. Seth (Echo) Sims, Tampa, FL.; daughter, Amy Sims, Huguley, AL.; grandchildren, Dylan (Samantha) Ragland, Cydney (Johnny) Ragland, Misty (Trent) Ragland, Josh Cleveland, Maggie Ragland; special family members, Devon and Nannette Brooks, Marde Brooks (Jessica Mills), Daniel (Sarah) Brooks, Randy Williams; great grandchildren, Dylan Butler, Kya Butler, Allie Ragland, Charlie Ragland, Bryson Ragland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made in Tyler’s name to a charity of your choice.

One of Tyler’s favorite quotes was “I had rather pray each night and find out there is no God than to not pray and find out there is one….”

Due to the current social gathering restrictions and Tyler’s wishes, a private service will be held at a later date.
