Mrs. Betty Butts Shaw, age 91, of Valley, Alabama passed away Tuesday February 23rd, at Bethany House in Auburn. She was born on September 22nd, 1929.
Mrs. Shaw was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Leona Butts; husband, Robert A. Shaw; brothers, Roy Dan Butts and William ‘Billy’ Butts; sister, Rebecca McDonald; and son-in-law, Gerald Sigman.
She is survived by her daughters, Sheila Sigman, Charlotte Robertson (Jack), Karen Yarbrough (Randy); granddaughters, Tamara Sigman, Joanna Taylor (Chase), Carla Williamson (Cameron), Rachel Robertson.
Mrs. Shaw was born in Shawmut, Alabama. She loved her family, church family, singing, cooking, and bird watching. She was a lifelong member of the Shawmut Church of Nazarene. Mrs. Shaw participated in both the children’s choir and adult choir where she sang alto. At one point she was part of a local gospel quartet that sang on the radio. She took great pride in feeding her friends and family, hosting a cooking night every Thursday for over 30 years. She could often be found sitting on her porch, conversing with friends and loved ones while watching her bird feeders. Mrs. Shaw retired from West Point Pepperell at Shawmut Mill.
The family will receive visitors at the Shawmut Church of Nazarene’s Family Life Center in Valley, AL from 2:00-3:45 PM (EST). Visitation will be held jointly with her son-in-law Gerald Sigman. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held for Mrs. Shaw at 4:00 PM (EST) in the church sanctuary. Private burial to follow. Due to Covid-19 precautions, masks and social distancing will be required.
