Mrs. Betty June Smith Mapp Obituary

Betty June (Smith) Mapp of Valley, AL. passed away peacefully at Bethany Hospice House on March 31st, 2018, following a short period of failing health.

She was born on June 3rd, 1931 in Roanoke, AL. to the late Charles P. and Sally Mae (Taylor) Smith.

As a teenager, she met William H. Mapp of Rock Mills, AL, who would become her husband. Together, they settled in Fort Lauderdale, FL. to raise their family. There, they enjoyed time outdoors, grilling with family, and most of all, fishing on Lake Okeechobee.

After Bill’s death in 1991, Betty relocated to Valley to be near her parents. The small-town life afforded her an opportunity to enjoy time in her yard and garden, and she cherished visits from her children and grandchildren. She also had a special place in her heart for birds and was always willing to offer a home to a bird in need.

She is loved and will be deeply missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and John LeClair of Nelson, NH; her son, Russell, and his partner, Kimberly Lewis, of Orlando, FL; her grandson, Jason and his wife, Akiko, and their children, Akira and Reina, of Tigard, OR; her granddaughter, Sonya LeClair, of Peterborough, NH; her granddaughter, Sondra LeClair, and her husband, Stephan Kester, and their children, Sadie and Paxson, of Anchorage, AK; her brother, Charles P. Smith, Jr., of Fort Lauderdale, FL; her nephew, Steve Wood, and his wife, Carol, of Valley, AL; and her beloved birds Pepper, Tooey, and Benji. She is also cherished by her neighbors, Jeffrey and Sharon Burnett, of Valley, AL.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her brother, Billy, in 2017.

At her request, there will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Betty’s memory to Foster Parrots, Ltd, P.O. Box 34, Hope Valley, RI, 02832.
