Margie E. Thompson
December 27, 1928 ~ April 1, 2020
Mrs. Margie Thompson, 91, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at Phoenix City Health Center.
She was a resident of Lanett, AL most of her life, but was born in Langdale, Alabama.
She leaves behind two daughters, Sarah Hopson (spouse Skip Hopson), and Mary Lou Martinez (spouse Michael Martinez); six grandchildren, Laura, Andrew, Elana, Marisa, Jenna, and Squeaky; one great-grandchild, Keiley; and one loving sister, Helen Farr (93) of Opelika.
She was preceded in death by her sweet husband Lane Thompson and son Paul; her siblings Red, James, Louise and Myrtle.
At age 16 she started working at the Langdale Mill, but later dedicated her life to being a wife and mother to her 3 children. She brought a spark to life with her unfailing sense of humor and loved God, her family, and her cats. She never missed an opportunity to “hug your neck” or take in a stray animal. You could find her watching reruns of the Andy Griffith show, making friends at the local Walmart, or sitting on her porch with her grandchildren recounting stories of “old Lanett”. Most importantly she taught her family about life, to be humble, to have a sense of humor, and to never forget where you came from.
Due to the current gathering restrictions, funeral services will be private.
The family would like to thank the staff at Phoenix City Healthcare and Kindred Hospice for their love and care of our Mother during her time with them.
